After your child’s tooth extraction, it Is important to follow these post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth recovery:
- Gentle Pressure: Encourage your child to bite on a clean gauze pad to control bleeding. Change the gauze as needed.
- Pain Management: Administer any prescribed pain medication and follow the dentist’s instructions. Over-the-counter pain relievers suitable for your child’s age and weight may also be used.
- Soft Diet: Offer soft, cool foods for the first 24 hours. Avoid hot, crunchy, or chewy foods that may disturb the healing process.
- Oral Hygiene: Gently clean the surrounding teeth, but avoid brushing the extraction site for the first 24 hours. Afterward, resume regular brushing while being gentle around the area.
- Swelling and Ice Packs: If there is swelling, you can apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the affected area for 10 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.
- Rest and Activity: Encourage your child to rest and limit physical activities for the first day to aid in the healing process.
